The premise of my counseling work is to practice my passion for guiding people through life transitions, navigating through their healing journey, and/or providing nourishing support. I believe that oppressed groups are at risk for mental health issues due to psychological distress caused by oppression, discrimination, victimization, violence, and inequality. I believe there is strength and freedom found in dismantling harmful, often internalized, social roles, societal expectations, stereotypes, and biases. I also align with the strengths-based aspect of feminist therapy that privileges the voices and experiences of “othered” groups and emphasizes that the client is capable of making change through guided self-exploration.
I believe that positive evolution is absolutely possible for each individual as long as they desire to grow and participate in the necessary work. I am convinced that adjusting and adapting is an invaluable part of personal fulfillment and self-acceptance. Whether you’ve endured a significant trauma, you have small behavioral adjustments you would like to make in everyday life, or you are just seeking solace in support; counseling is a rewarding and irreplaceable tool.
